Bio

Nicole Cartwright Kwiek, Ph.D. is Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Director for Educational Outreach at the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. As a faculty member in the College, she teaches undergraduate and pharmacy students in basic pharmaceutical sciences including pharmacology and biochemistry. Additionally, she leads a variety of outreach programs emphasizing science education, medication safety, and the growing problem of prescription drug abuse. She is a two-time recipient of the College’s Bachelor of Science in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award, an honor especially meaningful as it is selected by students. Dr. Kwiek’s research largely focuses on the use of pharmacology as a context to effectively teach science. She is the Director of the Generation Rx Laboratory, an innovative educational research laboratory at the Center for Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio. She is also the lead administrator and teacher of the Pills, Potions, and Poisons summer science enrichment program for high school students. In addition to her teaching and research, Dr. Kwiek co-leads the Generation Rx Initiative, a learning community of Ohio State University faculty, staff, and students developing resources to raise awareness about prescription drug abuse. Dr. Kwiek graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University with a degree in Biochemistry and earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Duke University. She also trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Duke Center for Science Education.
