Oya Demirbilek

Associate Professor

Bio

Oya is currently the Associate Dean (Education) at the Faculty of the Built Environment and Associate Professor in Industrial Design, at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Prior to this, she was Program Head for Industrial Design (2006-09), Senior Lecturer - Industrial Design Program (2003-09), and Postgraduate Program Director for the MID and MSc (IDES) Postgraduate Programs (2002-05). Before joining UNSW - Australia, Oya was a full time academic in the Department of Industrial Design (1991-2000), at the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara. She also held an Instructor position with the Department of Product Design, at the Art Centre College of Design (Europe), La Tour-de-Peilz, Switzerland (1989-90).

Oya is passionate about the ways industrial design is embedded in everything around us, and can enhance life for everyone; and her research focuses on universal design and ageing populations in particular. She also loves to teach about design research methods, universal design and empathy. Besides her academic work, she is also a designer of lighting, ceramic, glass, and jewellery.
