Dr. Anna Anderson

Bio

Anna Anderson is a Research Fellow and Lecturer in the School of Social and Political Sciences at The University of Melbourne. In 2011 she was awarded a PhD for which she received a commendation stating that the thesis 'is of the highest merit and at the forefront internationally in its field'. Her areas of research interest encompass the changing techniques and rationalities of governing, including the discourses and policies of risk and social inclusion; the constitution and government of youth; the history and public policy impact of the social sciences; and methods of critique. She is particularly interested in research methods and theoretical approaches which offer ways of engaging in critical analysis, such as those offered by Michael Foucault. Anna is passionate about teaching and is an experienced online teacher. She has, and is, teaching in a range of subjects including Living in a Risk Society, Sociological Foundations, Introduction to Sociology and Contemporary Society and Change. Anna is also Co-convenor of The Australian Sociological Association's Risk Societies Thematic Group. She has published a number of chapters and an article on the critical purchase of Foucault's methods and youth governance and is currently researching and writing in the areas of risk governance and governmentality, risk and critique as well as the sociology of youth.
