After we have discussed big data and especially
Artificial Intelligence and some of its potential
for transforming our general business environment,
it is important to also touch on some of the potential challenges with the technology,
show you how avoid pitfalls in the implementation of AI solutions and really think
about what's the future of AI for us as humans.
Both big data and especially Artificial Intelligence technologies are
likely to fundamentally impact and change how we engage with each other,
how we consume information,
how we work and even live within our societies.
This topic might go a little beyond the customer engagement focus.
But I strongly believe,
we all need to be aware of and to discuss the broader implications too.
Even if only to be equipped to engage into discussions with your peers.
But more likely, to be in control of your and your family's futures.
Therefore, I would like to share with you some initial thoughts and point you
into the direction to learn more and stay
informed on those topics and their developments.
Let me start with a question for you.
Do you think that Artificial Intelligence will replace jobs in the next five years?
Please take the poll.
Now, let me ask a second question.
Do you think that Artificial Intelligence will
replace your job in the next five to 10 years?
Please click on the poll.
When I asked this question in a room full of Technology Specialists,
you will find nearly consistently that everybody raises their arm and says,
"Yes, it will be impacting jobs."
And very few raised their hands and said,
"It will impact my job."
All the experts aren't all clear.
If there is a defined job and specific work activities or tasks,
they will be automated by Artificial Intelligence sooner or later.
The good rule of thumb,
is if you can explain your job to a reasonable
smart but not very creative person to do it for you,
then Artificial Intelligence will likely to be able to perform it, sooner than later.
The Forrester study goes really further and estimates the numbers of 16 percent of
United States jobs will be replaced by the equivalent of
9 percent will be created in the year 2025.
Office and administrative support staff will be the most rapidly disrupted.
The cognitive area will create new jobs such as robot monitoring professionals,
data scientists, automation specialists and content curators.
Forrester forecasts that 8.9 million new jobs
in the US will be created in those fields by 2025.
And even I.T.
people are concerned, some experts predict that simple coding
or programming will soon be done more efficiently by Artificial Intelligence.
93 percent of automation technologies feel unprepared
or only partially prepared to tackle
the challenges associated with smart machine technology.
PWC goes further in their prediction for 2030.
They think its entire jobs and specific worker activities will continue to be automated.
38 percent of jobs in the United States,
35 percent of jobs in Germany and 30 percent in
the United Kingdom could be a potential risk of automation by early 2030s.
That shows that Artificial Intelligence will have a clear impact on our societies.
AI has a tremendous potential to both further as
well as end humankind as we know it today.
Machine Intelligence is the last invention that humanity will ever need to make.
The philosopher, Nick Bostrom,
outlined in his TED Talk which we are referring to in the references for you.
The singularity could be the end of humanity as we know it and it's coming by 2045.
At least that's what Google is preparing for.
What is the singularity?
In Mathematics and Physics,
the singularity is the point at which a function takes
an infinitive value because it's incomprehensible large.
The future's court file predicts that in the next 30 years.
We as a humankind reach that point.
That's the point when AI I will pass a valid turning test
and therefore achieve human-like intelligence.
If you want to learn more,
there is another link in our resources to a speech by [inaudible].
But to fear or not to fear.
So instead of machines taking over the world vision of the singularity,
could spell things that there will be a future of unparalleled human machine synthesis,
where both of us come together and develop a new kind of Homo sapiens potentially.
But it's not a clear cut solution today.
Even the greatest human minds today disagree on
the challenges and risks of Artificial Intelligence.
The automation of factories has already decimated jobs in traditional manufacturing,
and the rise of Artificial Intelligence is likely to extend
this job destruction deep into the middle class with only the most caring,
creative or supervisory roles remaining.
That's a quote from Stephen Hawking.
He's in line with Bill Gates and Elon Musk on more on the challenging side of AI.
On the other hand,
we have the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg.
He and some other tech guys are scrambling to build AI technology as we said earlier.
And Zuckerberg even built an AI system to help control his home in Palo Alto, California.
Elon Musk thinks AI could ultimately destroy mankind and
send everyone scrambling to Mars to avoid machine overlords.
And the two of them, gave itself between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk an interesting
Twitter feed about the importance of Artificial Intelligence and the risks,
and how seriously to take them.
Bill Gates, Microsoft's founder talked about
Artificial Intelligence calling it the Holy Grail of computing on one side.
He thinks it's the most exciting thing in computer technology.
But Bill is also clear that humans should be worried
about the threat posed by Artificial Intelligence.
The Microsoft founder said he didn't understand people who were not troubled by
the possibility that AI could be too strong for people to control.
So, Elon Musk thinks government should study
Artificial Intelligence and fortunately, governments do.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the development
of Artificial Intelligence raises
colossal opportunities and threats that are difficult to predict now.
He thinks that one becomes the leader in the sphere will be the ruler of the world.
Well, you can imagine how many people trying to invest into AI and all for that reason if
you have seen a lot of Hollywood movies.
Thinkers like Elon Musk,
they must really need to come to an understanding of what it brings,
regulate AI before it becomes a danger to humanity.
But opinions are easy.
Expertise is more important.
Because the real innovators in the technology space
aren't necessarily Musk or Zuckerberg.
The innovator's innovations come from the data scientists who use Artificial Intelligence
to build predictive models to avoid Zika outbreaks.
To help law enforcement agencies locating
human trafficking victims through facial recognition,
or those fighting the war on cancer using machine learning
algorithms to identify cancers tumors with great accuracy.
These people are actively deploying it on.
They are the ones who deserve the spotlight and should be leading
the discussions. Make no mistake.
Artificial Intelligence will change the future as we know it.
But encouraging fears of total demise without providing a platform for
education and collaborative discussion is really not fair.
And those scientists that come together,
what makes me look positive in the future is events like the Global Summit on AI
for Good that was happening in Summer 2017 in Switzerland.
Because for many of us, Artificial Intelligence is
already happening day-to-day all around us.
From banking to legal research.
But for those living in poverty,
the potential impact of Artificial Intelligence is
enormous and bringing that potential out.
Helping humankind is a potential we should not close our eyes.
With this exploration of the deeper impact of Artificial Intelligence.
You have a good platform to join the ongoing discussions,
and please keep learning.
You've heard a little bit from me, Mark Mueller-Eberstein and my thoughts on AI.
Before we move on to discuss how AI is revolutionizing the customer engagement further,
I would really like you to share your thoughts and concerns,
as well as your optimistic envisioning with our community in our forum.
