It is here that the most important pieces of your life will be stored,
and they will move you towards your dream.
I'd been doing this practice for five years,
until a sensation integrated in me that
I actually feel every moment of my life - what
I'm doing, why, and how it is connected with my dream.
Of course, not every day, sometimes I fell out of this state,
then I thought: "My God, I'm not happy with myself.
I guess I have some spare time left.
And what do I do, why, what does my day consist of?
And why do I play these computer games and how much time do I spend on getting to work?
and how much time do I spend on getting to work?
Why am I so ineffective today?
Could I arrange it somehow differently?
What is my morning for?
How do I finalize my evening?
And what is my day made of?
Could I go to bed earlier?
Strange thoughts come to my mind:
here I had some spare time, I could have slept less.
Look at your timesheet,
your schedule – it’s so different.
There are such strange pieces of unconscious behavior
that you might want to alter it right away.
But it can’t be done perfectly at once.
Of course, we should dream about the ideal structure of the day.
But you still have many discoveries to make.
So, what do you need to do now?
Please take three highlighters - red, yellow, green.
And color your day.
In red please highlight the things
you want to cross out of your schedule
right now, pointless things.
You look at them and understand:
yes, this is obviously a good time slot to
enrich your life with something that will allow
you to move in the direction of your dream.
Here I spent too much time surfing social networks.
This part is getting me nowhere.
And here I do not even know
what I lost two hours for,
what does this
word even mean?
So, in red color please highlight
the things you want to get rid of.
It’s a loss of energy, this is
where you do completely irrelevant things.
These are not your key competencies.
This is where mistakes are; this is where there is a lack of will;
this is where the energy is lost.
And these are the moments that
require hard work to minimize them.
And forgive yourself in advance,
because these things are here to stay for some time.
These are your old habits, and we can’t get
rid of this red color in a blink of an eye.
Next, as you already guessed,
using a yellow and a green highlighters,
we will mark the things you are more inclined to.
With a yellow highlighter please mark what keeps you afloat,
your key competencies: I'm doing it now,
I'm an expert in this, I can do it,
and it's not that it just makes me complete
and inspires me and I'm going to do only this,
nothing else, but this is my immediate goal,
these are the actions that are my routine,
and this is my cash cow.
I mean, doing these
things daily, I can
somehow support myself.
It includes both
work and home.
So you can hardly cross out morning
shower, exercises, breakfast, and so on.
That is, they are familiar everyday things that I do.
I am not a world-class masterchef,
so I don’t make masterpieces for breakfast.
But in yellow we highlight the following:
this morning I made myself a yummy omelette,
I really enjoyed it.
My way to work: well, I could
move to another office, of course, but so far
I don’t plan to do it, so I could add some green color
to it, and a little bit of smile perhaps.
But I’m doing this, because if I don’t,
changes in my life will be dramatic.
Or, for example, I’m making a presentation.
It’s not that I'm a superman in making presentations,
but that's what I'm being paid for now.
And if I, for example, have been singing in the choir for
the last 20 years, I will keep doing that, because I like it.
In fact, the moment I was writing my own play,
I was smiling, and I imagined others acting.
I think, deep down in my heart
I'm actually a director, but I did it only
for half an hour yesterday in the evening.
And at that moment I felt happy and complete – it's
a green color, it’s my pleasure, my passion,
a smile on my face. It makes me complete, I do
it with pleasure, and I’m even willing to pay
someone, if necessary, to keep doing this.
These things are reflections of my heart,
they make me love myself, they fill everything
with meaning. And when I do it, let it
be hard for me, let it be a rocky start,
but it’s becoming better and better, I am
ready to learn, I like doing it, I feel complete
and self-aware in such moments.
Highlight this in green.
This may be connected with your family as well.
That is, if you feel self-realized at the moment when you
are taking care of your children, supporting your husband,
doing something for your team,
and you are ready to constantly develop,
do it with even more energy,
and you are feeling complete at this moment,
and there is some inner sensation of happiness,
of being alive, it’s a part of your soul, highlight
those moments, which give you some
kind of deep smile, meaning in life
and satisfaction, with a green pen.
So, one more time.
Red color means the things you
want to minimize in your life.
And this is something that you are not inclined to.
These are your anti-talents, your weaknesses,
but for some reason now they are in your life.
And the sooner we get rid of them, the better.
Green, on the contrary, is my assets,
my talents, my strengths, this is what
I love doing, what makes me feel
complete, this is passion and pleasure.
This is what I want much more in my life.
And if my life consists of this,
I will be the happiest person in the world.
And it's okay if they are simple activities.
Get to know yourself.
Find out what makes you really happy.
And please note: this is not a test.
There is no right or wrong answer.
Ask yourself a question:
what does my green day look like?
What does it look like, when there is nothing to change?
Do I want to play with the kids?
Do I want to have breakfast with my family?
Do I want to do yoga in the morning
or do exercises or some jogging?
What does a perfect day look like,
the one that would really make you happy?
And you understand that if you live
in this way, this day is worthy of calling
it the best day of your life.
And please keep yourself from the fantasies like:
first I skydive,
then I have some oysters on the Eiffel Tower,
after that I have a ten-hand massage - only then it’s
a green day for me.
Perhaps you enjoy simple familiar things.
Perhaps you derive pleasure from
public speaking or from having created
a beautiful programming or economic
tool. Maybe you came up with some
interesting new model.
Maybe in such moments you feel inner euphoria.
So, please color your timesheet,
dream what your perfect day can look
like and what's behind the scenes,
what is the routine of this famous guitarist.
Does he spend on the stage all day
or is he really enjoying his garage
rehearsing a new song with a drummer?
Please write it down. Analyze yourself.
Your. Self. For you.
Don’t show it to anyone, if you don’t want.
Listen to yourself, listen to where the smile is, and where the depression is;
where you get energy, and where you lose it; where it is your thing, and where it’s not.
