Hello!
So glad y'all are doing the teaching character MOOC.
As you can tell, this video looks a little bit different.
We doing it on an iPad just because we wanna update about an exercise
that we think would be really great for you.
You have listened to Dr. Marty Seligman talk about optimism and hope.
Well there's a research based on some exercises and
activities that you can do to become more optimistic and become more hopeful.
And the one we're gonna try this week is called the three good things exercise.
And the way it works is sometime during the day, ideally after dinner before bed,
you're gonna jot down three good things that happened to you.
You can do it in your journal, you can do it on your computer,
you can do it on your phone, on Evernote, wherever you keep your thing.
Just everyday, you're gonna jot down three good things that happened, and
here's the important part, you're gonna explain why they happened.
Because it's in the explaining of why that the real insights come.
And then, at the end of the week you're just gonna, as the week goes on,
you track how you feel.
Do you feel more optimistic?
Do you feel more hopeful?
Come back right here in the mood to this page and

And I'm gonna share a couple of the ones I actually jotted them down.
So my kids Max and Zack had an amazing Passover and Easter weekend.
We celebrate both in my family.
And here is the reason,
because my wife is super thoughtful about how we do the holidays.
And she's always thinking about what's going to make it really fun for our kids.
Another one is we had a really terrific family dinner last night
because we've started this tradition of between 4:00 to 6:30 on Sundays,
having friends and family over.
And by carving out this intentional time for family, it was really awesome.
And on the professional front, I've been working with a fourth grade math
teacher on how to do conceptual understanding better in her class,
and last week she had a killer lesson.
And the reason, according to her, was that she had studied the materials differently,
cuz that's what we've been talking about.
She really internalized the lesson before going out and
doing it and she had a great lesson.
It was really rewarding to her and it was fun to watch for me.
So those are my three good things from yesterday.
So enjoy the week.

And thank you.
